The Assessment Process
You can book your assessment directly, or get in touch first for a free 15-minute discussion if you would like to ask questions before going ahead.
You might also be interested in booking a 90-minute consultation if you are unsure whether a full ADHD assessment is right for you. This appointment does not provide a diagnosis. If you decide to go ahead with a full assessment, the consultation fee will be deducted from the total cost.
Before your assessment, you will be asked to complete questionnaires about your experiences (or your child’s, if you are a parent).
You will also be asked to give the details of someone who knows you well – such as a partner, parent, close relative, or teacher – so they can complete questionnaires to provide additional insight.
Any relevant reports will also be reviewed as part of the process.
For children, school reports and teacher input are essential. The more information we have, the more informed our final diagnosis will be.
Lastly, we will ask you (or your child) to complete the Objective attention testing (QbCheck), a computer-based tool that measures attention, impulsivity, and activity level. If you don’t have access to a computer with a camera, we will do this in-person in the consultancy room on the day of the clinical assessment.
This is where we meet (online or in person), and you can explain your experiences. Typically, these conversations last about 2 hours, but we will take breaks as needed.
During your assessment appointment, you can expect:
- Discussion of your developmental history
- A structured ADHD interview (DIVA-style)
- Exploration of how difficulties affect different areas of your life (for example, education, work, relationships, and daily routines)
For children, age-appropriate tools are used, and the wider family and school context is carefully considered.
This is a clinical conversation designed to understand your experiences. It is not an exam or something you can pass or fail. What is important is not just what we see, but also why we see it, so expect many questions!
We will have a conversation, typically an hour, in which you will receive clear feedback on the findings of your assessment, including:
- Whether diagnostic criteria are met
- An explanation of strengths and areas of difficulty
- Practical recommendations and next steps
There will be enough time for questions and for reflecting on what the outcome means for you.
We will think together about what support you (or your child) might need next. You have the option to return for additional supportive conversations at the standard consultation fee.
Shortly after your feedback session, you will receive a brief outcome letter summarising our discussion. This is a reminder of our feedback discussion and the answers to your questions.
Within the next two weeks, you will be provided with a full diagnostic report outlining:
- Your clinical and developmental history
- Assessment findings
- Diagnostic conclusions
- Practical recommendations tailored to your situation

Why choose an HCPC-Registered Psychologist for your assessment?
Choosing an experienced HCPC-registered psychologist ensures your ADHD assessment is thorough, evidence-based, and grounded in recognised professional standards.
A comprehensive evaluation considers developmental history and overlapping mental health or learning differences, reducing the risk of misdiagnosis and providing clear, clinically sound recommendations.
Information for your GPs and other Referrers
The report is suitable for sharing with your GP, school, university, or employer, where needed.
After Diagnosis
We provide tailored guidance and resources following your diagnosis to support your journey, including: psychological support, ADHD-informed therapy or coaching, school or workplace recommendations and guidance about medication through your GP or a psychiatrist.
The aim is to help you move forward with clarity and confidence.
Referral Guidance
Assessments are completed in line with NICE guideline NG87, with clear documentation of diagnostic criteria, evidence considered, differential diagnoses, and recommendations suitable for medical records and shared care.
